What is a "Google Alert" and how can it help me?
Google Alerts is a service offered by the search engine company Google which notifies its users by email (or as a feed) about the latest web and news pages of their choice.
I love it!
First let me tell you "how" and then I will tell you "why" you should use Google Alerts.
On the main Google page, go to the top right hand corner and click SETTINGS, GOOGLE ACCOUNT SETTINGS
This will take you to your personal profile page. Under MY PRODUCTS click ALERTS
By now you may be saying, "Why? Why? Why?"
Every time the "word" you chose to be your alert is mentioned on the internet, ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET, you will receive notification and a link back. This is helpful because if you type alert words such as giveaway (mostly bloggers use this term), prize, sweepstakes, or contest, you will be notified every time one is posted.
If that aspect doesn't interest you then at least put in your blog name so that you will know when people are talking about you. If you just have a mad crush on someone like George Clooney, then you could use his name and be bombarded with information daily. LOL
Other uses include:
monitoring a developing news story
keeping current on a competitor or industry
getting the latest on a celebrity or event
keeping tabs on your favorite sports teams
Try it! I know you will like it! What is the worst that could happen? Nothing! If you hate it, you can delete it!
